Panning for placer gold just North of Placerita Canyon California...what is this silvery stuff?

it's moderately reflective, heavier than the iron and non-magnetic.

Iron pyrites,or could be lead, nickel, silver. Since you said it was heavier than iron, likely not mica, although that is commonly found with metals. It as well may be some compound,,,, rhyolite. (Google it) or some other igneous compound....even quartz which isn't even metalic or necessarily silvery.
