In 1947, gas costs a quarter (which was made about of silver back then). Today, it also costs a quarter of an ounce of silver (which run over 4 bucks now). What does this mean?
a quarter of an ounce of silver per gallon of gas that is....

It means that the cost of gasoline and silver have risen about the same amount. In 1947 gas cost between $0.15 to $0.20 per gallon, silver was about $0.60 to $0.80 per ounce.

I can remember in 1952 my father complaining that gas was getting close to $0.25 per gallon. Now I wish it was..
